New Breed Poll

Which breed are you voting for, and -why-. I am curious as to the decisions that others are deciding.

I don't really think a new breed should be added at this time but obviously that's out of my hands xD.

I voted for springers with both of my votes. I'd like to see a spaniel get on the game. I wouldn't mind whippets either but my votes just went to spaniels for getting that group.

I didn't vote for danes because I don't find them much of an agility dog and I just don't care for them as a breed. So much of the site is unrealistic that it almost seems pointless to keep it within agility dogs but while it is, I won't be supporting danes.

I didn't vote for shibas because we have huskies and they are a little too similar for me. I'd rather get more variety with the springers or whippets.

What did everyone else vote? =)

It's called Alacrity, not AKC-virtual game.
I think agility breeds should be top consideration, not appearance.

Quite frankly, I highly agree with you on not adding another breed yet. I feel they are added too soon.

I voted (and will vote) for both Whippets and Great Danes.

Heck, the site is already becoming unrealistic as it is, but who's to say the dog can't do agility either way? I chose Great Danes not because of their lesser ability to do agility but because of their beautiful coat options. I am a breeder, not a trailer so their colors and patterns is something I want in my kennel.

Whippets seem like a perfect match for agility and again, I want them for their beautiful color coat options and patterns.

I only would want Shiba's is because I don't want to spend more money yet, and they'd leave me room to make money before the next breed. I didn't vote for them because of their lack of coat options. While I understand Carni can just slap some unrealistic patterns to their breed, I'm still a no go on them.

I didn't really think about voting Spaniels once. Though, now that I think, they'd be a really interesting addition to Alacrity. Still, they don't have my top vote.

P much what Crevan said.
There isn't a lot of variety in any spitz breeds. Spitz breeds have pointy ears, fluffy coats and a curly tail. :/
I'd like it if breeds like Chows or Shar Peis were suggested because at least there would be SOME variation being suggested with spitz breeds but I'd support neither of them because they'd be horrible at agility.

I know there is gonna be someone charging in here saying "I know of a Dane who once ran agility blah blah blah" just because a dog can lumber along a course, go through a tunnel and walk through a loop does not make it a good agility dog.

Oh and as far as field and show go... my springers are field/show mix. They look really nice with their hair shaved off :3

My tucker :3

Video shows his build a little better xD

Springers. Because I own two of them myself and because they are amazingly pretty dogs and do have a lot of variation. Someone in chat earlier said they don't have variation, and I see someone else says they aren't seeing it... but believe me, they do. There's a lot you can do with spots and ticking. They don't have brindle, but neither do some of the other breeds on this site that have it on here anyway, so xP

Personally I think shibas look too much like huskies AND they really don't have much variety in coats. Colors, somewhat, markings... not really. I personally love ticking and spots and such and with a shiba that would just...not work *shrugs*

Danes... I think, personally, shouldn't be added to an agility site because personally I would never run one in agility. They have joint problems as it is, and I know from experience how awful it is to have a dog get injured due to agility, so I don't promote large breeds even being thought of as agility dogs. Again, personal preference there.

Whippets would be cool, but, we do already have a sight hound breed on here. I personally would have rather seen beagles or something in their place so at least a scent hound (and therefore variation) would have been on the poll.

Just some personal opinions on the matter. I was hoping for an all sporting breed poll in all honesty xD Agility site and no sporting breed? Seems odd to me xD

I voted both Whippets and English Springer Spaniel.
Though I probably won't breed either of them, I think they're the best new choice of breed. I believe people need to think about the breeds before supporting them simply because of looks.

Shiba Inu - I feel it will be too similar to the husky.
Spaniel - We currently don't have a sporting breed
Great Dane - Great Danes are not good at agility, I believe they're only supported due to favoritism of the breed or it's appearance
Whippet - We already have a sighthound but nothing as skinny and strange looking as a Whippet

EDIT: However, I'd like it if the spaniel (if chosen) were to look "tighter" and look more like field-bred than it's show variant :/
Field = left, show = right

Field-bred
Show-bred

However, I'm not finding a lot of variety in markings with the spaniel which is a bummer.

EDIT 2: Here we go, okay this is cool :D
Color
All the following combinations of colors and markings are equally acceptable:(1) Black or liver with white markings or predominantly white with black or liver markings; (2) Blue or liver roan; (3) Tricolor: black and white or liver and white with tan markings, usually found on eyebrows, cheeks, inside of ears and under the tail. Any white portion of the coat may be flecked with ticking. Off colors such as lemon, red or orange are not to place.

I voted springers.

I wouldn't mind whippets, but we already have a sighthound on here, I think adding a sporting breed should come before them, although I would love to see them added in the future.

I also love shibas, but I think they should wait as well. While shibas and huskies aren't very similar, I believe they are close enough to allow the shibas to be pushed back.

On the other hand, I am vehemently opposed to great danes, and giant dogs in general. Danes don't even stop growing until around 18 months (and shouldn't start training for agility until 2 years), which is quite a long while for a dog that only lives around eight. That means that you have less time to safely train and trial with danes. In addition to their short lifespan, they are very prone to health issues (as most giants are), including a heart defect that will sometimes kill a dog as young as five years old. Danes are also far from agile. While you might see a few able to do well in agility, they are the exception, not the norm. I could go on and on about why danes shouldn't be added, but I feel I would get a little long winded.

Spaniels are the best choice IMO. Naturally very athletic and driven, we don't have any other breed remotely close to them, and they are a smallish breed, which we haven't had in a while. Plus I am assuming that Carni will be putting in other spaniel markings (ie roan, ticked) just as cardigan corgi markings were added to our pems.
